Rigo Landa, Barber of Georgetown, Dies at 87


Rigoberto “Rigo” Guillermo Landa, 87, former owner of Georgetown Hairstyling, the century-old barber shop at 1329 35th St., NW, died Sept. 7. Born in Matanzas, Cuba, Landa retired to South Florida seven years ago. He began working at the classic, old-school shop in 1968 and bought it from two brothers who owned and operated it for decades. The business was later passed to his stepson Ed Lara, who died in 2014. The current proprietor is Vanussa Mendes, who with her husband purchased Georgetown Hairstyling in 2015.
