Citizens Celebrate Maman Bakery, Valentine’s Day

Maman, the NYC French bakery and café, will open tomorrow on St. Valentine’s Day at 1353-1355 Wisconsin Ave. NW — showing off its “signature sweet treats and cozy drinks” — along with a dedicated room, “The Study,” catering to Georgetown students.

The Citizens Association of Georgetown held a members’ appreciation meeting there on Feb. 9 to welcome Maman’s co-founders Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall and their newest location. CAG members appreciated the tasty, sweet and savory samples.

For their part, the married business partners remind us that they “have brought to life a melding of our earliest childhood experiences in the kitchen and a nod to their mothers from the south of France and North America. Maman, after all, means ‘mother’ in French. What started as an independent Soho café and bakery in 2014 is now a leading lifestyle brand that boasts cafés across North America.”

The company got a boost by being included in the 2017 edition of “Oprah’s Favorite Things.” Its memorable food, rustic style and Instagramable vibe get its shops noticed. Maman has 28 locations, including Georgetown.

Be sure to ask for Maman classics like famous Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookies and Croque Maman as well as seasonal specials like White Chocolate Rose Cookies, in time for Valentine’s Day.

Marshall will be signing her “Maman: The Cookbook,” noon to 2 p.m., tomorrow, Feb. 14.
