Weekend Roundup, Dec. 28 – Jan. 1, 2024

Happy 2024! Can you believe another year has flown by? We’ve got plenty of options this week, including Artechouses’s holiday show, Noon Yards Eve, New Year’s meals at Bourbon Steak and Pinstripes and more. Wishing you a healthy and happy new year!

Go Ice Skating at the Many Rinks Around D.C.

If you’re up for some holiday fun, there are many options for ice skating around the District. The Wharf has D.C.’s only over-water ice skating rink. There’s also the ice rink at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. Don’t forget our own neighborhood rink as well— the Washington Harbour ice skating rink is open now through Feb. 25. Of course, all these ice-skating options are weather permitting.

Fuel Up on New Year’s Brunch at Pinstripes

Begin your New Year’s Day with a brunch at Pinstripes. The bistro, bowling and bocce space will be extending their weekend brunch, along with an optional bottomless mimosa package. More information on the brunch can be found here.

Begin 2024 with a brunch at Pinstripes on 1064 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

Ring in The New Year with Bourbon Steak

Bourbon Steak is hosting a three-course prix-fixe meal, along with a midnight champagne toast and a festive balloon installation. There will be live music all evening as guests dine while they wait for the arrival of 2024. Noteworthy offerings include a Petrossian “Mina Reserve” caviar, truffled prime rib and more. Tickets are available for $180 per person and can be found here.

See Artechouse’s “Spectacular Factory”

Through Jan. 3, check out Artechouses’s holiday-themed installation, dubbed “Spectacular Factory.” Their exhibit “Beyond the Light” will be paused while a dreamy holiday spectacular appears. Expect giant floating, swinging Christmas bells, Nutcrackers (literally thousands), and train rides through wreaths. Don’t miss the spinning candy cane carousels either! More information can be found here.

The family-friendly New Year’s Eve day event (10 a.m.-1 p.m. to be exact) includes activities for kids of all ages, like an inflatable slide and bounce house, glitter tattoo artists, carnival games, and more. The event ends with the anticipated countdown and balloon drop at 12 noon. Noon Yards is free to attend, but advance registration is required. You can register for the event here.

See a Lego Holiday Installation at The Darcy

Now through Jan. 28, visit The Darcy Hotel lobby for an “Unapologetically DC Lego Art Installation.” Check out Lego versions of Santa’s festive preparations, a replica of D.C.’s Chinatown neighborhood, and more. Visitors are welcome to embrace their inner child and cast their vote in person or via social media. The grand prize winner will be revealed on Jan. 28, which is National Lego Day. More information on the display can be found here.

Imagination Stage Introduces Immersive Experience

The Washington area’s biggest professional theater for younger audiences, Imagination Stage, is showing “Jungle Discovery” now through Jan. 14. The immersive experience is recommended for very young theatergoers  (ages 3 to 6) and accompanying adults. It’s part theater piece, part interactive exhibit and created and produced in partnership with the Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore. More information on the event can be found here.
