Stabbing at Georgetown Safeway Leaves Man Dead, Another Injured


An arrest has been made.

After a stabbing in the parking garage of the Georgetown Safeway at 1855 Wisconsin Ave. NW, one man later died and another was injured.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the altercation took place at noon, Wednesday, July 17.  “This was an isolated incident between delivery drivers that grew into a large fight with multiple people involved,” MPD said. “It ended when one party stabbed two of the other assailants. It appears that all parties involved knew each other. Our Homicide branch is currently investigating.”

Both men went to nearby MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on Reservoir Road, according to news reports.

D.C. police added: “The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Anvar Guliyev, of Fairfax, VA. On Thursday, July 18, 2024, as a result of the detective’s investigation, 34-year-old Khalil Khalilov of Alexandria, VA, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed and Assault with Intent to Kill.”

The second stabbing victim, Ahmad Seyfullah Ahmadova, suffered critical injuries, according to MPD.
