Opinion: Thank you, President Biden!

One could say a lot has happened in the last decade—er, 10 days (it sure seems like a decade of American history has passed in the last week!). Eight days after an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, current President Joe Biden decided to end his re-election campaign.

The historic move came after pressure to end his campaign from Democratic leaders like former President Barack Obama and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Many criticized Biden’s performance in the first presidential debate in late June, calling for him to end his campaign due to age and cognitive concerns.

After Biden made his announcement Sunday in a statement, he swiftly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris responded that she was honored to be endorsed by Biden. What happens next remains uncertain.

We wanted to take the time out to say thank you, President Biden!

After spending over half a century in D.C., we are so grateful for all you’ve done for our city and our country. As “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill wrote, “Thank you for your service, Mr. President.”

Thank you for your service to the Senate, vice presidency and of course, presidency. Thank you for your service to the state of Delaware and being an honorary Georgetowner. We loved seeing you around town at Holy Trinity and at area restaurants. President Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden, have a long relationship with Georgetown University too. The university put together a list of highlights including their support of cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi.

As you recover from another bout of COVID, Mr. President, we want to thank you for leading us through one of the most uncertain times in the U.S.—the pandemic’s end. We are grateful for your leadership through a frightening time.

Thank you for supporting equal rights for women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Thank you for recognizing our student debt and trying hard to eliminate it. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to reinforce international relations as well as you did.

President and Dr. Biden, as you prepare for your chapter in life, remember: you are welcome in Georgetown any time! Thank you for your service.

Joe Biden will go down in history as one of the most corrupt and ineffective Presidents. It is unbelievable that the administration has covered up his mental health capacity from the American people for so long. While we cannot blame Mr. Biden for his illness, we can however blame his wife and family for elder abuse. A man in Mr. Biden’s condition should not be in the job as President. Anybody who thinks of his condition as acceptable to be a President is equally impaired. Good riddance.

Thank you, John, for stating what many of us feel! I wholeheartedly agree. Open your eyes people! Harris was part of the coverup of Biden’s decline. Why would anyone trust her going forward?
