It’s hard to believe that the summer is slowly winding down. Enjoy Summer Restaurant Week, some jazz at Wolf Trap, and MJ: The Musical at The National Theatre.

Tonight at Wolf Trap: The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

There’s still time to grab a ticket to this evening’s performance with Wynton Marsalis at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center. Marsalis is a nine-time Grammy winner, Pulitzer Prize recipient, National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and the artistic director for a 15-member big band. Also This Evening: A Creative Writing Workshop at The Strathmore Celebrating James Baldwin’s Centenary
There’s still time to check out a creative writing workshop at The Strathmore in honor of James Baldwin’s centenary. The workshop will be led by Derrick Weston Brown of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. The poetry workshop will offer participants a different approach to writing, revealing new creativity and potential. More information on how to attend can be found here.

MJ: The Musical Moonwalks into Town
The National Theatre is showing “MJ: The Musical” for a limited engagement now through September 8. The show takes viewers through the iconic Michael Jackson’s artistry during the making of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Enjoy hits like “Smooth Criminal,” “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” and more. Check Out a New Exhibit at The Phillips Collection

“Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage” is open now through September 22 at The Phillips Collection. The first large-scale exhibit dedicated to exploring modern Black American artists like Kara Walker and Mark Bradford, it features almost 60 works by nearly 50 artists. Expect to see artwork made with paper, photos, fabrics and other pieces of material. More information on the exhibit can be found here.

The DAR Takes a Peek into Sewing
Now through December 31, The Daughters of the American Revolution Museum has “Sewn in America: Making-Meaning-Memory” on display. Check out a variety of textiles all made by American women. There are lots of intricate quilts, garments and pictorial embroideries. The exhibit also closely examines the role sewing played in American women’s lives. More information can be found here.

The West Wing Cast Members to Make an Appearance at Sixth and I

This fall is the iconic show The West Wing’s 25th anniversary and to celebrate, Sixth and I is hosting Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormack, who wrote a book about the show.  “What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service.”  In-person tickets are unfortunately sold out, but virtual options are still available.
