Georgetown University Students Return to the Hilltop

As August slips away (into a moment in time?), a new academic year is about to commence at Georgetown University.

While many first-year and transfer students have already arrived on campus for a handful of pre-orientation programs, the class of 2028 will officially move in today on Aug. 22 and tomorrow on Aug. 23. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors will arrive on the Hilltop on Sun., Aug. 25. Classes for undergraduate students will begin next week on Wed., Aug. 28.

When walking through the front gates, returning Hoyas will notice things look a little different around the John Carroll statue in front of Healy Hall. In June, Georgetown began the first phase of their multi-year construction project “to replace aging underground utilities with more energy-efficient infrastructure” on the front flank of campus. This first phase involving Healy Circle will conclude on Nov. 2024. Upon completion, construction will begin on Copley Lawn until April 2025. The entire project will conclude in spring 2027. During the next few years of construction, a portion of the front lawns will remain accessible at all times—much to the relief of neighborhood strollers, local dog walkers, and lawn-lounging Hoyas alike.

For more information on the Healy and Copley Lawn utilities project, email facilitiesplanning@georgetown.edu. Additionally, for any neighborhood concerns (including noise, trash, etc.), contact the 24-hour University Helpline at (202) 687-8413 or the Student Neighborhood Assistance Program (SNAP) at (202)-687-8413 which is open Thurs. through Sat. from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. throughout the academic year. You can also email communityengagement@georgetown.edu for assistance.
