D.C. does Halloween unlike any other city. Here are seven ways to spend some last-minute Halloween fun, including Georgetown-specific events like a ghost tour, new escape room and Halloween party at Rose Park.
Take a Ghost Tour of Georgetown
With a neighborhood as historic as Georgetown, there hundreds of years of ghost stories just waiting to be told. Hear stories about the curse of Abraham Lincoln’s son, see lights flicker at a home whose past resident did not like electricity and of course, end the tour at the infamous “Exorcist” steps.
“Halloween Whodunit 2” at the DC Improv
Do you like to laugh when you’re scared? This event Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. could be a great Halloween option for you. An all-new Halloween murder mystery is just begging to be solved. Roles will be available for volunteers and the audience gets to guess who the killer is.
Try an Escape Room in Georgetown
Beginning today, an escape room opens at 3345 M St. NW and is open through January 10, 2025. There are six unique escape rooms, including five exclusive themes just for our neighborhood. Up to 10 people are welcome to attend for one-hour sessions.
Have Some Spooky Fun at Rose Park
Wednesday from 3-7 p.m., take the whole family to Rose Park for their Halloween Market Night. There will be a pet costume contest, trick-or-treating for children in costume, and a movie at 7 p.m. The event will be at Rose Park at 26th and O Streets NW.
Enjoy the 37th Annual 17th Street High Heel Race
Tuesday at 9 p.m., the popular High Heel Race celebrates its 37th year. Celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community and join thousands as they watch costumed drag queens and kings and others as they race down 17th Street in high heels.
Have a Halloween Happy Hour at the Library of Congress
On Halloween night from 5-8 p.m., visit the Library of Congress for a themed happy hour, “Live! At the Library.” Guests are welcome to wear costumes and share candy. There will also be Halloween-themed bites and cocktails. Visitors are welcome to check out the library’s Main Reading Room, but keep in mind, it is a working research space.
Trick-or-Treat at Embassies
Every year, D.C. embassies participate in trick-or-treating festivities on Halloween. The embassies typically hand out candy during daytime operating hours, not in the evening during traditional trick-or-treating time. Embassies hand out American chocolate and candy, while some like the Embassy of Indonesia pass out candies from their culture. This year, some embassies along Massachusetts Ave. NW, like the Embassies of Greece and Portugal, will be participating.
