•In: Tilley’s Pet Supplies
Tilley’s Pet Supplies, owned by Drew and Megan Robitaille, opened a second location in Georgetown at 3216 O St. NW on Nov. 26. Named after one of the Robitailles’ five dogs, Tilley’s Pet Supplies exudes the love they have for animals.
“At Tilley’s, we are continuing the tradition of quality food and products that dedicated pet owners expect to find in an independent pet supply store,” the Robitailles said in a statement, adding they offer more than “20 different brands of both dog and cat foods. On top of our high-quality dry food and canned options, our freezers are loaded with some of the best fresh and gently cooked options available. If we don’t carry the food you are looking for, just ask!”
January Debut: Hakan Ilhan’s Alara
Look for a January debut, in time for the 60th presidential inauguration. The long shuttered Paolo’s Ristorante space will become Alara, a Turkish restaurant by Hakan Ilhan. Meaning “beautiful water fairy” in Turkish, Alara will feature seasonal menus and wines with a focus on the four Mediterranean coastal nations of Turkey, Greece, Lebanon and Israel.
The prime restaurant space at 1303 Wisconsin Ave. NW is next to the newly opened Dig eatery, which took the smaller corner portion of the old Paolo’s, which closed in August 2018 after a 30-year run.
Among Ilhan’s extensive portfolio is Brasserie Liberte, one block away on Prospect Street — along with Al Dente on New Mexico Avenue and Il Piatto at Black Lives Matter Plaza.
Coming: Saints Valley
Saints Valley, a clothing store at 1361 Wisconsin Ave. NW, is popping open soon. They tell us that the store is “where epiphany of fashion begins! Where women empowerment meets Fair trade! Discover avant-garde jewelry designs, cloud-soft pashminas, handmade silk/wool artsy pillow cases; original wall hangings and unique clothing!”
Moved (Temporarily): Lululemon
The Lululemon store at 3265 M St. NW is under renovation. Meanwhile, the business has moved temporarily to 3077 M St. in the closed Showfields space (before that, Brooks Brothers) moved two blocks east.
Out: Smoke Island
The cannabis and vape shop, Smoke Island, at 1326 Wisconsin Ave. NW, next to the Georgetown Inn, has left the neighborhood.
