The 82nd Annual Golden Globes: A Recap

The 82nd Annual Golden Globes kicked off the 2025 awards season with lots of fashion, fun with a new host and lots of red carpet moments.

Host Nikki Glaser Shined

After 2024’s 81st Golden Globes host Jo Koy fell flat, comedian Nikki Glaser made history as the first solo woman to host the show. Her jokes earned plenty of laughs and chuckles, and she engaged the audience as well—her bit getting Adam Sandler to do his signature voice and say “Chalamet,” in reference to Timothée Chalamet’s name was fun and light-hearted. Long gone were the rolled eyes and death stares from the audience last year.

Old Hollywood Looks Were on Trend

Selena Gomez (who arrived with her new fiancé Benny Blanco) wore a Cinderella blue Prada gown and her bob in classic waves. Paired with Tiffany jewelry and her massive marquis diamond engagement ring, she looked spectacular. Gomez was nominated for her roles in Emilia Perez (best performance by a female actor in a supporting role) and Only Murders in the Building (best performance by a female actor in a television series).

Zendaya, 28, who was nominated for the best actress in a comedy or musical award for her role in Challengers, also chose to style her bob in Old Hollywood waves and a breathtaking Louis Vuitton saffron colored double silk satin column bustier gown, along with Bvlgari High Jewelry. She also wore a ring on that finger, sparking engagement rumors with longtime love Tom Holland, also 28 (as of press time it was announced they are indeed engaged).

Wicked was the Talk of the Town

The “popular” (excuse the pun!) film Wicked took home the award for cinematic and box office achievement. Another fun bit involving the movie was Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, who played The Wizard and Madame Morrible, respectively. They presented the award for Best Song (“El Mal” from Emilia Perez won) and joked about internet talk calling the two “zaddy” and “serving mother.” You can watch that exchange here!

Big Winners: The Brutalist, Emilia Perez

The Brutalist, a movie about an architect escaping postwar Europe to America to rebuild his entire life, won the Best Motion Picture – Drama Award. It was nominated for seven awards and saw star Adrien Brody take home his first Golden Globe for a leading role. Brady Corbet took home the Best Director award. He also co-wrote the movie.

Emilia Perez, which took home the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, also picked up awards for Best Original Song, Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Zoe Saldaña). The movie tells the story of a Mexican lawyer offered a job to help an infamous cartel boss retire and transition into living as a woman.

“Popcorn Actress” No More

Demi Moore won her first Golden Globe at the age of 62. Her acceptance speech was memorable, noting how a producer once called her a “popcorn actress.”

She said: “At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something I was allowed to have.” While Moore first made a name for herself in movies like Ghost, Striptease and Indecent Proposal, she finally got well-deserved accolades for her role in The Substance as a celebrity whose fame is fading.
