This style of Madonna and Child is of Gothic sensibility in relation to the basic clothing on the figures. From the William Randolph Hearst Collection in the early 1940s, the piece originated from Normandy in the early 14th century. An interesting fact: the Christ Child figure was probably at once holding a bird, but it was lost or broken at some point.
