“I’ve never seen such a successful and well-attended event in a public park,” exclaimed first place trophy winner Benjamin Barad. “It was just smashing!”
The 2025 Rose Park Open took place over the weekend of April 26-27 at the public tennis courts dedicated to the Peters sisters. Among the 42 players and hundreds of neighbors as spectators was former Mayor Adrian Fenty, who came to watch his son Matthew play in the tournament.
Day 1 ran from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. because of the rain in the morning and early afternoon; day 2 ran from 7:30 a.m to 5 p.m. — with an award ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
For 4.5+ bracket, the winners were 1st place Benjamin Barad & Pablo Carranza, 2nd place Richard Greiser & Pawin Jirapoomdaje. The runner ups were Matthew Fenty & John Kirchner, Matthew Brudniak & Brian Campbel, and Zeeshan Vazeer & Jumpei Nakamura.
For 3.5-4.0 bracket, the winners were 1st place Andrew Astuno & Keith Kirsten, 2nd place Eric Bowden & Kelsey Shields. The runner ups were Viquar & Prem, Steven Wilson & Shippen Howe.
The Organizers/Tournament Committee included Yubing Shi, Chien-Wei Lan, Lenka Folger, Jared Jones, Valeria Shirvani and David Dunning.
Volunteers and contributors included Vicente Caballe, Bert Kelley, Gwen Lohse and Andy Cline.
Sponsors were the Friends of Rose Park, NTB Group (Washington Fine Properties), Tennis Zone Plus and The River School (Washington, D.C.).
