America is about to have its own royal wedding. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce proposed to singer Taylor Swift amidst a gorgeous enchanted-like garden setting at his home in Missouri. The setting in the backyard of Kelce’s home cost about $38,000, according to Ashley Greer of the D.C.-based Atelier Ashley Flowers, who was recently quoted in a People article about the engagement.
The photos, which included Swift in a simple Ralph Lauren dress (which has long since sold out), were a subtle nod to some of her songs like “Love Story” and “August,” included August-specific trees and over 1,000 roses.
Her engagement ring is following a recent gigantic engagement ring trend, and its vintage look should spark a wave of heirloom antique jewelry and rings.
The caption for the picture carousel read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married” with a TNT emoji, a play on their initials that the couple often use. Perhaps Swift and Kelce tied the announcement to back-to-school season? Swifties were quick to note the call to her song “So High School” with lyrics like “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” referencing Kelce’s football skills and Swift’s way with words.
Perhaps what is one of the best things to remember about Swift’s engagement is that she didn’t settle or follow the timers that society puts on things like marriage, success, or children. I myself didn’t get engaged until I was 35 and married at 36, so it was refreshing to see Swift follow a similar timeline.
Swift is proof that it’s never too late. It’s never too late to find that career success, or to pivot careers altogether. It’s never too late to get married or even have children. These days, there’s so many options.
Love and success and everything that happens in your life is meant to be exactly when it happens. Trust in your own instinct and it’ll happen when it’s supposed to.
In the meantime, get ready for America’s version of a royal wedding—if we’re lucky enough to see a few glimpses of it!
