Social Scene: Blood Cancer United Hosts ‘Dinner of Dreams’

By Cynthia Case

Last week, Blood Cancer United (formally the Leukemia Lymphoma Society) hosted “Dinner of Dreams” at the Mayflower Hotel in D.C., which was attended by survivors and families of blood cancer illness.
The evening was hosted by former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Alex Okafor, who shared that his own mother passed from lymphoma shortly after her diagnosis.
Actor and musician Charles Esten performed at the event. Esten, who was on the show Nashville from 2012-2018, shared his story about his daughter, Addie, who was diagnosed with leukemia as an infant. Addie, now a young woman, was there at the event with her father.
The participants left the night inspired and motivated to lobby Capitol Hill the next day.
