Social Scene: The Napkin Network: Moms on a Mission in a Time of Need

What began five years ago as a simple effort to help moms and babies in need has grown into one of the most impactful grassroots movements in the D.C. area. The Napkin Network brings local moms together collecting diapers, wipes, and formula; today, it supports thousands of local families facing hardship. This past month underscored just how essential that mission is. With more than 30 days of government shutdowns and suspended SNAP benefits, many parents struggled to keep food on the table.

Yet in the midst of uncertainty, the community rallied. More than 100 women gathered at L’Avant-Garde Georgetown on November 7 for the Moms on a Mission Luncheon raising an extraordinary $35,000 to keep families afloat. Thanks to the incredible generosity of  businesses such as DC Plastic Surgery Boutique, ResortPass, Alyssa Crilley, Defy Aesthetic, Stakes Direct Manufacturing, Ritual by Tracy Holzman, Harmony Pediatric Dentistry and partners across the region, the event became a powerful reminder of what happens when women show up for one another.

“I have been flooded with direct requests from local moms in need. Every single item makes a difference and together, we are helping mom and families feel seen, supported and cared for.” Lindsay Gill, founder of The Napkin Network.
