(Washington, D.C.) — Washington Performing Arts announces its 2022 Gala, District of Creativity: Arts & Community Amplified, which will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the National Building Museum beginning at 6:30pm. In homage to the breadth and strength of the creative community in the District, this year’s event honors the artists of Sweet Honey In the Rock, educators in the D.C. Public Schools Arts Team, and dance icon Therrell Smith; while also raising crucial funds to support Washington Performing Arts’s education and gospel music programs. Opportunities to become involved—such as individual tickets, donations, and sponsorships—are currently available.
Washington Performing Arts’s 2022 Gala celebrates the creativity and resiliency of artists who persevere and better our lives through the arts. Under the banner District of Creativity: Arts & Community Amplified, the evening’s program is inspired by these creators and their contributions.
“District of Creativity: Arts & Community Amplified celebrates the dynamic vibrancy of our region, as well as the long-standing, inclusive work that has been embedded into the mission of Washington Performing Arts since our founding 56 years ago,” stated President and CEO Jenny Bilfield. “Every featured artist and honoree has been a creative partner and served as inspiration for our work and in our community. As we celebrate them, we also celebrate our patrons whose support has made it possible for our programs to achieve wide impact and to thrive. I’m so grateful to our team and to the Gala leadership for their super fun and inventive planning around this event, and I can’t wait to be back on the dance floor at the end of what I know will be a great evening!”
