Bollywood & Bhangra Beatz at the Printmakers
A summer season of Bollywood & Bhangra dance lessons this July and August, exploring the genres of Bolly beatz and Bhangra jams. Whether you are an expert, or a beginner, these lessons are a both fit and fun (ness classes) for all to come explore music, culture and rhythm through the art of dance.
Originating in India, Bollywood and Bhangra dance highlights rhythm, expression and passion. Bhangra, particularly, is a high-energy folk dance with origins from Punjab in India and Pakistan, a dance now learned and loved by many. The summer series invites dancers of all levels (and ages!) to have fun and learn something new or old. This all-levels hour of movement will be a highlight of your week, and the perfect evening activity!
Join us at the Washington Printmakers Gallery for a 6-week summer series and learn fun routines filled with moves to a variety of dance styles, and you’ll be swaying the evening away in no time!! No previous experience or agility is necessary, just a comfortable pair of shoes, attire and a smile!
About Your Instructor: My name is Gitu Sakhuja. I am not formally trained in dance, but I believe dance is my superpower! I have a love for movement, expression, curiosity and know that dance makes me feel good! I have danced for the better part of my life, participating in various talent shows and events across many floors, stages, states and countries. I have taken part in dance team competitions in California, leading & choreographing Bhangra and helping my teams to win first place at several competitions (Bhangra by the Bay, Charitable Care Foundation’s Annual Raas-Garba, Folk & Bollywood Dance Competition). Today, I’m a lawyer with over 20 years international experience and a never-ending love for dance.
