Celebrate Earth Day By Learning How to Home Compost!

April 23, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am UTC+0

Composting at home helps to protect the climate, cut garbage, and enhance your local soil by wasting less food. If you’d like to give it a try, the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) is offering an online worm composting workshop for DC residents as part of the DC Department of Public Works’ Home Composting Program.

The workshop is free but you must be a resident of DC to participate.  Space is limited and attendance is first-come, first-serve.

The 2-hour workshop will teach the science of composting, what can be composted at home, how to compost at home, different types of home composting systems, best management practices, and more.

Attendees will qualify for a rebate of up to $75 towards the purchase of a traditional (stationary bin or tumbler) backyard home composting system. For more information on the District’s Home Composting Program and rebate program, please visit zerowaste.dc.gov/homecomposting. ILSR is providing the training and processing rebate applications for the District.

  • Time: Friday, April 23 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
