Curative Collective Conversations with the National Museum of Women in the Arts

November 1, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - November 15, 2021 @ 1:00 pm UTC+0

WHAT
Curative Collective Conversations

Join the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) and members of the Curative Collective for a weekly conversation at the intersection of food, art and social change. From social justice work to restorative self-care, the Curative Collective is a group of organizations that serve communities throughout the Baltimore–Washington area and are contributing to RECLAMATION: Recipes, Remedies, and Rituals, an online exhibition exploring the healing power of food. These organizations help shape the exhibition to reflect and serve their communities while sharing their arts and social change resources.

This month, we welcome art historian Shana Klein, author of The Fruits of Empire: Art, Food, and the Politics of Race in the Age of Expansion (University of California Press, 2020); Nigerian interior designer Tola Akerele, author of The Orishirishi Cookbook (2020); and dancer and artist Makeda Thomas. Guests will share more about their work, their inspirations and how viewers can get involved with RECLAMATION.

Monday, November 1, 12–1 p.m.: Shana Klein
Monday, November 8, 12–1 p.m.: Tola Akerele
Monday, November 15, 12–1 p.m.: Makeda Thomas
