Come join the Caravan of Light and Hope for Refugees!
On World Refugee Day, June 20, 2018, join us for a sunset run/walk & candlelight vigil in support of refugees around the globe.
The Sunset Run for Refugees is a special event on the evening of Wednesday, June 20th, World Refugee Day, involving running and fitness clubs from throughout Washington DC that will culminate in a candlelight display and vigil at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Check-in/candle distribution begins at 7:00pm at GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY’S ELLIOTT SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS (1957 E Street NW). Guided caravan groups of runners and walkers will depart Elliot School every few minutes starting at 7:15 until 8:00pm. The walking route is about 2 miles and the running route will be about a 5K (3.1 miles).
All running groups will arrive at the Lincoln Memorial and then proceed to form a caravan of light and hope that will surround the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool shortly after the sun goes down. The entire vigil should last about 20 minutes and there will be photographers and videographers on hand to capture the display.
After the run there will be a social gathering Penn Social downtown (801 E Street NW). Drink specials provided.
THE EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC! FAMILIES (AND STROLLERS) WELCOME!
