Feeling Connected Through Seeing Kindness

May 7, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm EDT

$15 – $30

The relationship between a child and their mother is very special. The quality of this relationship can vary for each individual. Some of us have very close relationships with our mothers while others feel distant. For some, they may have never known their mother. Despite the wide range of relationships each of us have with our mothers, Buddhists believe that every mother is kind regardless of their behavior in this life because they gave us our life. If we wish to become a more loving and kind person then it is beneficial for us to recognize the kindness of our mother. What better way to spend Mother’s Day than contemplating the kindness of our mothers?

In fact, one powerful meditation to shift our mind from a self-centered perspective that feels isolated and lonely is to recognize how all living beings have at one point been our mother. In order to understand this meditation we need to contemplate the possibility of past and future lives. Once we open our mind to the possibility that we have had countless past lives we then ponder, “Where are all my mothers now?” In contemplating this question we see that all the living beings around us have at one point been our kind mother. With this perspective we can see that we are not alone, and that it is quite the opposite, we are surrounded by our kind mothers.
