Friends of Book Hill Park 25th Anniversary

May 10 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Friends of Book Hill Park

Invite you to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and support the Painting of the Historic Trident Fence

Join us for Wine and Cheese, Saturday, May 10, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Addison/Ripley Fine Art: 1670 Wisconsin Avenue, Directly across from Book Hill Park

Historic Trident Fence

The cast iron Trident Fence is a prominent and historic feature of the park that dates back to 1863. The fence

originally surrounded DC’s first reservoir (an engineering feat at the time, as well as a remarkably ornate

structure) where the park and library now exist. Over 20 years ago the friends group restored the original

fence along Wisconsin Ave. No fence existed on the Reservoir Road side of the park. However, the friends

group found panels of the original fencing in the library basement. With financial support from the

Georgetown Garden Club, these panels were restored and erected; and to complete the fence additional

panels of fencing were fabricated and installed. These fences are now in dire need of attention and the very

costly task of scraping and painting seems a fitting project to mark our 25-year anniversary.

Featured Artist

Addison/Ripley will feature Jennifer Sakai, whose large-scale photographs explore the metaphysical and emotional relationship between the human and natural world.
