Gioachino Rossini: Stabat Mater

May 19, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0

$15

Gioachino Rossini’s rise to the top of Europe’s opera scene was swift. He is considered one of the most famous opera composers in history and composed nearly 40 operas in 20 years including The Barber of Seville, Otello, La Cenerentola (Cinderella), and Guillaume Tell.

Rossini brought the same emotional intensity to the Stabat Mater that he brought to his operas. After the premiere in 1842, the Stabat Mater was performed no less than twenty-nine times in its first year, a magnificent success.

Join the Choral Arts Society of Washington and Artistic Director Scott Tucker as we welcome acclaimed opera conductor Antony Walker (of the Washington Concert Opera) to the Concert Hall for Rossini’s Stabat Mater and a selection of iconic opera moments. Choral Arts and Maestro Walker will share the stage with operatic sensations Sarah Coburn, Olivia Vote, Jack Swanson, and David Leigh.
