The acclaimed author of historical fiction set in Georgetown, Breena Clarke, will talk about her creative work, research, and the impact of recently learning about her ancestors’ enslavement in the nineteenth century in Georgetown’s historic federal era City Tavern and her ancestors’ parallels with the experiences she wrote for her fictional characters – long before she knew the facts of her own family history. Breena Clarke is a scholar and the author of three novels, the co-founder of the Hobart Festival of Women Writers, and the co-editor of Chicken Soup for the Soul: I’m Speaking Now, Black Women Share Their Truths in 101 Stories of Love, Courage and Hope. This program is presented by the City Tavern Preservation Foundation.
