“Intersection: Identity and Culture,” An All-Media Exhibit on view at Falls Church Arts through January 13

December 15, 2023 @ 10:00 am - January 13, 2024 @ 4:00 pm EST

Free

For this exhibit, “Intersection: Identity and Culture,” artists were invited to share works expressing the intersection of their identity and their culture of origin or the culture in which they find themselves. The all-media show at Falls Church Arts brings together thirty-eight artworks that explore this exhibit theme.

Participants employed a range of media, including watercolor, mixed media, acrylic on canvas collage, gel plate monoprint and woodblock prints, oil, clay, water and ink on paper, wood, and monotype, among others.
Fabiola R. Delgado, the exhibit juror, talked about the importance of pursuing exploratory themes in the art world. “I was deeply moved by the sensitivity and thoughtfulness of the artworks submitted for this exhibition. It takes immense courage to expose oneself openly, and the vulnerability displayed by the artists is a necessary unveiling of our shared journeys of self-discovery, influence, and connection. Each piece offered a unique perspective and invited viewers to contemplate on deeply personal but universal stories, encouraging us to embrace the vast diversity that defines our existence.”
“It was a privilege to witness such a rich and inspiring dialogue unfold within the artworks. This experience reinforced the importance of engaging with our local art communities, as it ensures that creativity is cultivated, and that diverse voices are acknowledged and uplifted.”
Ms. Delgado is an independent curator, creative consultant, and a program specialist at the Hirshhorn Museum. She has worked with the Smithsonian Institution, The Embassy of Spain, Times Square Arts, The Center for Book Arts NYC, MacArthur Fellow Mel Chin, and the Obama White House.
