Landmark Lecture: Remembering Lafayette in the Nation’s Capital

September 17 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Free

During 2024-2025, communities throughout the U.S. will commemorate the bicentennial of Lafayette’s triumphal return to America which included a visit to Tudor Place in October 1824. Join Mark Hudson, Executive Director, who will chronicle Lafayette’s national tour, with an emphasis upon his time in Washington and interactions with the grandchildren of Martha Washington. The program will explore why the tour captured the young nation’s imagination and why the memory of Lafayette continues to be celebrated two centuries later.

Mark Hudson has served as Tudor Place’s executive director since October 2015. In a career that spans more than 30 years, he has led historical organizations in Vermont, Maryland and Missouri. In addition to an undergraduate degree in American history, Hudson holds a Master of Historical Administration and Museum Studies degree from the University of Kansas and a Master of Arts in library science from the University of Missouri.
