Luke’s Wings will host its 9th Annual Charity Heroes Gala on Saturday, September 18 from 6-11 p.m. The event will take place at the Ritz Carlton, West End in Washington D.C. Luke’s Wings mission is to reunite wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans with their loved ones by providing complimentary airfare during recovery and rehabilitation. The Gala is a night to honor those recipients.
Headlining the event is Kris “Tanto” Paronto, a former Army Ranger from the 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment, who inspired the critically acclaimed Michael Bay film, 13 Hours. Also appearing is viral artist and singing sensation Joe Everson. Everson will perform one of his famous live-action paintings while singing an American medley. His artwork will be available for bidding during the evening’s auction.
The evening begins with a cocktail hour and a silent auction from 6-7 p.m. There will also be a wine wall, open from 6- 9 p.m., where attendees can test their luck at winning a luxury bottle of wine. During dinner, while guests are enjoying a three-course meal, Luke’s Wings will present the 2021 Hero Awards to:
• Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Franz Walkup. Franz and his team were caught in a surprise ambush attack in September 2012. He was shot five times in the stomach and back. Luke’s Wings has supported him throughout his recovery.
• U.S. Army Sergeant Stephanie Johnson. Johnson came under direct fire in 2013 while deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan experiencing incredible trauma to both legs. She was transported to Walter Reed Medical Center, where Luke’s Wings flew her and her family during her recovery.
After the award ceremony, Kris “Tanto” Paronto will speak about his life experiences and work with Luke’s Wings, followed by Joe Everson who will entertain guests with his famous singing and painting demonstration. Following the main event, attendees are invited to stay and enjoy the Luke’s Wings After Party with dancing and music from DJ Neekola, while enjoying late-night hors devours and cocktails.
