When after many years Milton Koch opened a box of documents that his mother had saved, it started him on a journey to discover the story of his family during the Shoah. Starting in Vienna including an arrest and transport to Dachau, then to Luxembourg, on to Lisbon and Cuba before ending in the US, the family odyssey took years to fully discover. His research took several unusual turns including donations to the USHMM, which led to unforeseen connections. He will describe the twists and turns of his voyage of discovery and the unusual events that ended with a fully explored history of his family’s saga.
This one-hour program, conducted over Zoom at 1:30 PM Eastern Time, is free for members. This is one of the many activities that is a benefit of JGSGW membership. Speaker: Milton Koch was born in Havana, Cuba and is a retired gastroenterologist who practiced in Montgomery County from 1976-2012. He has three children. He and his wife live partly in Bethesda and also spend time in Portland, OR to be with their grandchildren. He has been doing genealogy research since about 2005. He has been active in JGSGW and is secretary of Gesher Galicia, an organization concentrating on Jewish genealogical and historical research in the former province of Galicia.
