The National Men’s Chorus, conducted by Artistic Director Thomas Beveridge, will perform opera choruses and musical theatre favorites, at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. All of the opera music to be performed was written for male chorus: will perform the “Chorus of Brigands” from Verdi’s Ernani; the “Chorus of Priests” from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; the “Prisoners’ Chorus” from Beethoven’s Fidelio; the “Pilgrims’ Chorus” from Wagner’s Tannhäuser (with piano reduction by Franz Liszt); the “Sailors’ Chorus” from Wagner’s Der Fliegender Holländer; and the “Soldiers’ Chorus” from Gounod’s Faust, among others. Also included on the program will be selections from operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan and songs from classical musical theatre by Cole Porter, Victor Herbert, and Sigmund Romberg, in special arrangements by Artistic Director Thomas Beveridge. In addition, accompanist Thomas Pandolfi will perform his own “Fantasy on Themes from West Side Story,” in tribute to the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein.
