On Thursday, April 10, 2025, in Washington, DC, the nonprofit We Need Diverse Books will host Stories Save Lives, a joyful community conversation and cocktail reception celebrating ten years of We Need Diverse Books and its Walter Dean Myers Awards, followed by a fundraiser. Event sponsors include Scholastic, Inc.; Macmillan Publishers; Little, Brown Books for Young Readers; co-founders of Beanstack Jordan Bookey and Felix Lloyd; Politics and Prose Bookstore; Bloomsbury; and NetGalley.
Stories Save Lives will feature three award-winning, bestselling authors: We Need Diverse Books board member Roxane Gay (BAD FEMINIST), former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Jason Reynolds (LONG WAY DOWN), and National Book Award-winning Jacqueline Woodson (BROWN GIRL DREAMING). The authors will be in conversation about why diverse stories matter now more than ever, and how to ensure these books thrive in the future. The event will be held at the Whittemore House in Washington, DC at 7 PM ET on April 10, 2025.
