WHAT: The Boro, Tyson’s premier destination for luxury urban living in the heart of Northern Virginia, invites you and your best check-mates to its first-ever outdoor chess tournament, The Boro’s Gambit. On November 13, catch every move at the Sandlot as Grandmaster Rashad Babaev, an international chess sensation and resident of The Boro, competes in a simultaneous game against 30 players. After the main event, put your moves to the test and challenge others to jumbo chess and checkers set up around Boro Park.
Spectators of all ages and players at all levels are welcome to participate in The Boro’s Gambit! WHO: Rashad Babaev, Chess Grandmaster
Originally from Baku, Azerbaijan, Rashad Babaev became a Grandmaster in 2007 and is the winner of 30 international tournaments. As a young player he had esteemed coaches, including Oleg Privorotsky, the teacher of World Champion, Garry Kasparov. With 21 years of experience, Babaev is a full-time chess coach and has taught 11,000 students.
HOW: The event is free for spectators and $20 for players. Registration is required on Eventbrite.
