The Beaux-Arts mansion of Gilded Age heiress Mary Scott Townsend at 2121 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, will be open for a complimentary tour for a limited number of visitors on Saturday, January 11, 9-10 a.m. Docents will guide guests through the first two floors of the architectural masterpiece of John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, who also designed the New York Public Library and the first Senate and House office buildings on Capitol Hill. Visitors to the landmarked mansion must be 12 years or older, and shorts, jeans, flip-flops and t-shirts are not permitted. The tour is free, but reservations are required.
