Tudor Place 29th Annual Garden Party
September 22 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC+0
Executive Director Mark Hudson and President of the Board Mary Moffett Keaney are pleased to announce that the 29th Annual Garden Party at Tudor Place Historic House & Garden will take place on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Tudor Place was completed in 1816 by Martha Parke Custis Peter, a granddaughter of Martha Washington, and her husband Thomas Peter. Owned by six generations of the Peter family for nearly 200 years, it opened as a public museum in October 1988.
The Garden Party has become the last party of the spring season, and a sell-out event for Washington’s most generous friends. Traditionally held the last Wednesday in May, this year’s gala is scheduled for September due to health guidelines and recommendations by the Office of the Mayor and the CDC.
The Garden Party is the institution’s most important fundraiser of the year. Cheryl Lynn Boland, of Doyle Interiors, will chair the gala. This year Tudor Place honors the Georgetown Garden Club, a long-term partner. With a focus upon public gardens, parks and other public spaces throughout the neighborhood, the Georgetown Garden Club has contributed over $500,000 to historic parks and public spaces. The Club has supported numerous initiatives at Tudor Place, including the boxwood blight recovery plan, perimeter restoration projects, a botanical garden collections management system, replanting the Box Knot and tree care.
Surrounded by 5 ½ acres in the heart of Washington’s historic Georgetown neighborhood, Tudor Place is a site where visitors can be rejuvenated amid its beauty and botanical wonder. Executive Director Mark Hudson noted, In this unusual moment, we have become an essential agent of relief and comfort. The preservation and protection of this National Historic Landmark is now, more than ever, vital to this community. Details posted https://tudorplace.org/support/spring-garden-party/
ABOUT TUDOR PLACE: America’s story lives here! Tudor Place preserves the stories of six generations of descendants of Martha Washington, and the enslaved and free people who lived and worked at this Georgetown landmark for nearly two centuries.
