•The weekend leads right into Christmas Monday, with “A Christmas Carol” in Olney, Maryland; German Advent and Christmas music at the Folger; a Swedish Julbord in Woodbridge, Virginia; and the Feast of the Seven Fishes in Georgetown. There are also jazz, beer and comedy options — not to mention a Falafel Frenzy and a Matzo Ball on Christmas Eve.
‘A Christmas Carol’
These are the final performances of Paul Morella’s one-man show at Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road in Olney, Maryland. Morella voices 47 characters as Charles Dickens originally intended — in the author’s own words. Adapted from Dickens’s original novella and reading tour, this solo version, recommended for age 10 and up, will transport theatergoers back to Victorian England. Performances are Thursday, Dec. 21, at 7:45 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 22, and Saturday, Dec. 23, at 3 and 7:45 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 24, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $45 to $80. For details, visit olneytheatre.org or call 301-924-3400.
‘Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming’
With lute, organ, viol consort Arcadia Viols and vocal ensemble Cathedra, Folger Consort celebrates the season with music from Germany — from the medieval majesty of the 15th-century Glogauer Liederbuch to the flower of the 17th-century German Baroque. The music of Praetorius, Schütz, Schein and Scheidt will be performed, along with festive dances and canzonas. Performances are Thursday, Dec. 21, and Friday, Dec. 22, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 23, at 4 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $50. The Folger Theatre is located at 201 East Capitol St. SE. Blues Alley, 1073 Wisconsin Ave. NW, presents two sets nightly, at 8 and 10 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 21; Friday, Dec. 22; and Saturday, Dec. 23.
