Final Performances: ‘Silent Night’
Washington National Opera presents the Pulitzer-winning opera by composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell about a Christmas truce on the Western Front during World War I. Final Performances: ‘The Fall’
Written by seven students as the statue of imperialist Cecil Rhodes was dismantled at the University of Cape Town, “The Fall” charts their experiences as activists grappling with the legacies of race, class, gender, history and power in South Africa. Georgetown Christmas Tree Farm
Saturday, Nov. 24, is opening day for the Georgetown Christmas Tree Farm at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, 3100 South Street. Offering freshly cut trees from 6 to 7.5 feet tall — along with local products sold at Bees & Trees Farm of Elkwood, Virginia, including jams, butters, teas, wreaths and hand-painted ornaments — the pop-up farm will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Dec. 16. Small Business Saturday
Nov. 24 is Small Business Saturday — founded by American Express in 2010 — with more than 30 Georgetown shops and eateries offering discounts, giveaways and tastings. Shoppers will receive a Small Business Saturday bag with their purchase, while supplies last, and up to five of the bags will include a ticket redeemable for a $50 American Express gift card. Also, check out the Wing’s “Shop Small Stations” at Chaia Tacos, 3207 Grace St. NW, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Wing, a network of coworking and community spaces for women, will support entrepreneurs again this Small Business Saturday by hosting a Shop Small Station at Chaia Tacos in D.C. Shoppers can kick off their day with fun amenities and treats at the Shop Small Station and pick up their special Shop Small maps of 10 curated women-owned local businesses. Shoppers who visit three or more stores on the map and receive a punch on their “Loyal & Local” punch card should swing back to the Shop Small Station by 4 p.m. to win a prize.
DC Brau Holiday Market
DC Brau’s fifth annual Holiday Market, presented in partnership with Think Local First DC, returns to the brewery, 3178 Bladensburg Road NE, on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 6 p.m. In addition to DC Brau beer, the event will feature more than 40 local artists and artisans, live music by Reed Appleseed and DJ Budman, games and activities for all ages and food trucks. First Ladies of Tenleytown Walking Tour
On Sunday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m., as part of Tenleytown WinterFest, Tenleytown Historical Society board member Farleigh Earhart will lead a free 90-minute walking tour of Washington’s second-oldest village, focusing on its “first ladies” — the women pioneers of education, architecture and business who influenced the development of Tenleytown.
