The Willard Hotel reverberated with the sounds of bagpipes Nov. 16, as the St. Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C., celebrated its 70th Tartan Ball. Highland dancers, single malt whiskey and plenty of guys in kilts — including Christ Church Georgetown’s Scottish rector, Timothy Cole, created a vibrant Celtic-inspired evening. A highlight of the event is the pageantry through the halls as the society’s pipes and drums sound the call that dinner is served. The ball is a fundraiser for the Washington Scots Charity and Education Fund.
