Round House Theatre: Quarantini Discussion
On June 12 at 5 p.m., Hudson Tang, Round House Theatre’s food and beverage manager, will chat with Faizan Khan, owner of Dog Haus Biergarten Bethesda and Dog Haus Kentlands, on Round House’s Facebook page.
M Institute for the Arts is running a Saturday-morning “Cello Brunch Club,” at which cellist Emma Hays Johnson discusses the great cellists and cello repertoire on Zoom. The next session is June 13 at 11 a.m. Donation: $12.
National Museum of Natural History: Jellyfish Webinar
Jellyfish-ionados will want to Zoom in to this free National Museum of Natural History event on June 15 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Dr. Allen Collins will introduce viewers to live jellyfish in the museum’s Aqua Room and talk about invertebrate research.
American Film Institute: AFI DOCS Festival
The American Film Institute’s AFI DOCS 2020 festival, starting June 17, will screen 59 documentary films from 11 countries online over five days. A conversation on June 19 with actor and filmmaker Lee Grant will be moderated by Ann Hornaday, chief film critic of the Washington Post. Screening passes and forum passes (for panels and conversations) are $50.
Italian Cultural institute: Fellini Webinar
Celebrating Federico Fellini’s centennial, the Italian Cultural Institute Washington will present “An Absolutely Sincere Liar,” a Zoom webinar featuring Caterina D’Amico, former dean of the Centro di Cinematografia Sperimentale in Rome, on June 18 at 4 p.m. Registration is required.
Theater J’s Yiddish Theater Lab will live-stream a reading of “One of Those” by Paula Prilutski, adapted and translated by Allen Lewis Rickman, on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. The reading will also be available for on-demand viewing on June 19, 20 and 21. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance.
National Museum of Asian Art: Korean Film Festival
This year’s Korean Film Festival is taking place online through June 30. On June 18 at 7 p.m., the National Museum of Asian Art will host a discussion with Yi Ok-seop and Jeong Ga-young, makers of the female-driven comedy-dramas “Maggie” and “Heart,” along with Jeong’s “Heart” co-star, Lee Suk-hyeong. Both films are streaming free through June 18.
Reed Society: Calligraphy Exhibition
In collaboration with Baltimore’s Walters Art Museum, the Reed Society for the Sacred Arts has created an online Islamic calligraphy exhibition, “Beauty in Solitude.” Each participating artist shares his or her reflections on the pandemic and social distancing along with a current piece of work.
National Museum of African Art: Online Workshop
In “Pendants That Please,” a free workshop on the National Museum of African Art’s website, participants learn about West African techniques for working gold, look at gold pendants in the collection and reproduce the techniques of filigree and granulation using paper, aluminum foil, cardboard and other materials.
National Postal Museum: Online Story Time
Children can watch author and illustrator Cori Doerrfeld read her book “The Rabbit Listened,” which delivers a simple but powerful message about how we can help others experiencing grief and loss. Doerrfeld also gives a short tutorial on how to draw a rabbit. A coloring sheet, a letter-writing prompt and a certificate can be downloaded from the webpage.
