Crime Report: 2 GU Incidents, Suspected Arsonist Nabbed
By January 10, 2022 0 969
•At the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2E January meeting, Second District Captain Steve Andelman of the MPD reported that property and auto theft are significantly down over the last 30 to 60 days. This is due in part to officers actively patrolling the area and the community heeding law officials’ advice of not leaving cars idling and unlocked, Capt. Andelman said.
Last week, The Georgetowner reported on a trio of fires started within 30 minutes and a half-mile radius in Georgetown linked here. Capt. Andelman reported that a homeless woman who was responsible for all three fires has been arrested and charged with arson.
Andelman also believes that the recent tire slashing activity on 31st and N Streets NW may be resolved. A homeless man, who is believed to be tied to the slashings, was picked up for simple assault. Detectives can’t technically link him to the crimes so further investigation of video surveillance footage will be undertaken before any charges can be made.
In this report, there was a second case of vandalism in two weeks on the Georgetown University campus, and several armed and unarmed robberies.
