Weekend Round Up, March 31 – April 3

Happy Friday! April Fools’! It’s unfortunately only Thursday but consider it a warning because tomorrow’s indeed April 1. For those who aren’t too foolish, so many great options await you this weekend, including getting out to the fully reopened U.S. Botanic Garden, new exhibits at Mount Vernon and the Hirshhorn and some fun food-related events. Happy Friday eve!

It’s “Cherry Night” at Swingers Dupont

Swingers Dupont Circle is hosting “Cherry Night” tonight at their mini golf/bar/lounge to celebrate the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Swingers, in addition to other bars and restaurants in the area, will have custom springtime menus, cherry blossom themed décor and live music. Guests who venture out to Cherry Night are encouraged to wear pink. More on Cherry Night can be found here.

Panel Discussion Tonight at The Wilson House

This evening at 5:30 p.m., a panel discussion with African American Georgetown residents will be held. The residents will be sharing their experiences living in Georgetown and witnessing the changes to the neighborhood over the last 10 years. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Doors open at 5, the panel and webinar is 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the reception is 6:30-7 p.m. Admission is free, but a suggested donation is $10. More on the discussion can be found here (you can also participate online).

Mount Vernon Unveils New Exhibit

Mount Vernon unveiled a new exhibit earlier this month called “Mount Vernon: The Story of an American Icon.” The exhibit will feature the complex history of Mount Vernon, including George and Martha Washington of course, but also the lesser-known stories of the enslaved community. Guests can also learn about earlier and later generations of Washingtons and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association (which has preserved the property for over 150 years!) More on the new exhibit can be found here.

The U.S. Botanic Garden Fully Reopens April 1 (not a joke!)

Just in time for spring, the U.S. Botanic Gardens will be reopening the conservatory to the public tomorrow, which will make for a full reopening of all areas of the USBG. Established by Congress in 1820, the USBG is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America. If you’re planning on going this weekend, entrance is free and timed tickets won’t be required. The conservatory is back to normal hours (10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily) and the gated outdoor gardens will be back to spring/summer hours of 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. More information on the USBG can be found here.

Hooray! A New Exhibit at the Hirshhorn

Get your Insta ready! “One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection,” opens tomorrow to the public. The exhibit focuses on the artist’s multi-decade career and comes five years after the milestone “Infinity Mirrors” exhibit. Some of the acquisitions on view will be a pair of Kusama’s ethereal Infinity Mirror Rooms, which represent space and time through illusions of infinity. Don’t miss “Pumpkin,” where guests are surrounded by walls and walls of Kusama’s trademark polka dots. More information on the exhibit can be found here.
