It’s going to be a hot one this weekend! Be sure to stay hydrated, seek shade and of course, have lots of fun with these activities happening around town.
Sunset Cinema at the Wharf: Only 5 Weeks Left!
The Wharf (like Georgetown) is hosting a summer outdoor movie series. This Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m., take your friends to see the 2017 movie “Girls Trip” starring Tiffany Haddish, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and more. Stay tuned for Georgetown’s outdoor film series — it begins August 2 and ends September 6 at Georgetown Waterfront Park. Head to the National Museum of the American Indian for a Film Screening
Saturday at 1 p.m. at the National Museum of the American Indian, experience a film screening of “El Canto de las Mariposas,” or “The Song of the Butterflies.” The screening will be at the Rasmusen Theater on the first floor of the museum. The movie chronicles artist Rember Yahuarcani, an Amazonian artist from Peru, as he finds new artistic inspiration and understanding of his grandmother’s stories. Seating is first come, first served. ‘80s and ‘90s Kids, Unite!
New Kids on the Block. Rick Astley. En Vogue. Salt-N-Pepa. If these names mean something to you, head to Capital One Arena this Saturday at 8 p.m. “The Mixtape Tour” is full of lots of fun nostalgia and the perfect lighthearted summer treat. Get tickets for the concert here.

“Lou Stovall: The Museum Workshop” Opens at The Phillips Collection
The newest exhibit at The Phillips Collection looks at the legacy of The Dupont Center, a museum founded in D.C. in 1969. The museum was part of a collaboration of curator Walter Hopps and artist Lou Stovall. Work produced by artists and collected by Stovall from 1969-’73, in addition to community posters that show an unsettled time in D.C. will be on display. An Evening with Amanda Seales at the Kennedy Center
One of the stars of HBO’s “Insecure,” stand-up comedian and host of NBC’s “Bring the Funny” Amanda Seales will be appearing at The Kennedy Center Saturday for a show. With a Masters in African American studies from Columbia University, Seales uses intelligent, creative comedy to get audiences laughing and thinking at the same time. Take the Kids to Tudor Place to Learn All About Flowers
Families with children of all ages can head to Tudor Place this Saturday at 5 p.m. for a special class on flowers. Kids can learn how to identify different types and see how Tudor Place’s gardeners keep the grounds in such impeccable shape. There will also be an art project during the class. Tickets cost $3-$10 depending on whether you’re a member, adult or child. More information on the class can be found here.
