Trees for Georgetown Celebrates at Historic P St. Home 

The fall Trees for Georgetown Garden party is the all-volunteer committee’s main fundraising event. After a two-year absence, this year the Sept. 11 event was back in full force. The morning rain abated to allow hosts Tom Anderson and Marc Schappell to open the elegant garden of their historic P Street home with the caution of a tent for the occasional sprinkle. Guests shared stories of summer adventures, as they enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres by Susan Gage along with wine and signature cocktails.

Trees for Georgetown chair Betsy Emes and host Tom Anderson thanked their supporters and urged them to be generous after two-years without funding. A committee of the Citizens Association of Georgetown since 1989, Trees for Georgetown has planted more than 3,000 trees, contracted watering services and provided preventive maintenance for at-risk trees. Trees for Georgetown partners with the D.C. Urban Forestry Administration and Casey Trees in an innovative program to plant residential street trees. The cost of purchasing and planning each tree is funded entirely through gifts and grants.
