The Chesapeake Film Festival Begins Today with 10 Days of Celebration
The Chesapeake Film Festival, currently in its 15th year, is celebrating with a hybrid, 10-day celebration of film and filmmakers from around the world. Major themes of this year’s festivities include the environment and films by and about women. The LIVE Festival starts today in Easton, MD at the Avalon Theatre and Ebenezer Theater and will continue through October 2. The free virtual part of the festival will follow, with 48 more jury-selected films for home viewing Oct. 3-9. More information on the festival can be found here.
Take the Kids to a Creative Play Date
To celebrate her first year in business for local toy brand “Follies,” designer Chloe Varelidi, along with Washington Award Artist is hosting a creative play date at Halcyon Art Labs Saturday from 4-6 p.m. Children are invited to create and build play structures and learn about artists like Yayoi Kusama and Frida Kahlo while developing their STEM skills. Don’t Miss DC Art Now 2022
Through October 29 at 200 I St. SE, visit “DC Art Now 2022.” The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ annual exhibition of selected work by finalists for the Art Bank Program grant. The exhibit features many emerging artists working in the DMV today including Cathy Ambramson, Sondra Arkin, Jessica Van Brakle, Curtis Woody, Andy Yoder and more. Wiener Dogs and Beer and Polka, Oh My!
Oktoberfest returns to The Wharf neighborhood this weekend with the 10th annual Wiener 500 Polka on the Pier (Friday 7-9 p.m.), Dachshund Dash (Saturday 2-5 p.m.), and Stein Hoisting Competition and German Fare (Sunday 2-5 p.m.). Throughout the weekend, restaurants in the neighborhood will be serving German food and be decorated in Bavarian décor. If there’s one event you must-see, it’s the Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash. The event benefits Rural Dog Rescue and is a fan favorite. More information on the weekend festivities can be found here.

- Polka on the Pier on Friday (Sep 30) has been canceled completely.
- The Wiener 500 Dachshund Dash has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 16th from 2-5pm.
Fall Fest Begins at East Market Lane in Georgetown Park
A curated shopping destination, dubbed “Fall Fest,” begins this weekend in Georgetown Park’s East Market Lane. Small business vendors like Earth Essentials by Erica, A Contemporary Market: Bakery and Wellness Shop and Tequeno World will be selling fall-oriented items like home goods, fashion, jewelry and more. There will also be a pumpkin installation at the entrance of the market perfect for those Instagram-worthy fall photos with the family. Fall Fest will run every weekend from September 30 through October 30, Fridays from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Visit the National Children’s Museum to Dive into the World of Pixar’s “Inside Out”
The National Children’s Museum is hosting an exhibit called “Emotions at Play with Pixar’s Inside Out” that will run through the fall and winter. The event will take families into the world of Pixar’s 2015 movie “Inside Out” with digital experiences featuring characters from the movie who represent our five main emotions: joy, fear, anger, disgust and sadness. The exhibit is recommended for children ages 2 through 10. More information on the event can be found here.
