•Soon: Dig, Shouk, Villa Yara
Three new Georgetown restaurants are moving right along in construction and opening within days or weeks.
Villa Yara (Lebanese) at 2815 M St. NW is finished and opening within days. Dig (farm-sourced fast casual) at 1301 Wisconsin Ave NW is almost there — announcing an April 15 debut. Shouk (plant-based Israeli street food) at 1426 Wisconsin Ave. NW is also finishing up its renovation work and is set to open March 24.
In: Hitched on Book Hill
Hitched — it has nothing to do with Will Smith — is a new wedding shop opening at 1663 Wisconsin Ave. NW. And it’s not about dresses, either. There was a Hitched shop down the avenue that offered wedding gowns a few years ago. Headquartered in Philadelphia, the new place is about wedding rings — founded by husband and wife, Chris and Stephanie Sammons, in 2018.
Soon: Streets Market to Open on P St.
Streets Market — a local chain of small grocery stores that operates in such neighborhoods as Adams Morgan, Cleveland Park, NOMA and West End — has been at work renovating the empty 7-Eleven space at 2617 P St. NW at Herring Hill.
Closed in May, the 7-Eleven convenience store was a favorite of residents, visitors and cops since 1964 — with longtime franchise owner Girma Hailu departing to run another 7-Eleven near NOMA.
Streets Market is known as “a local grocery store that offers a wide variety of organic, conventional, local, international and everyday practical goods all under one roof.” It’s like a mini Whole Foods, according to a neighbor.
Its debut is expected by the end of the month or early April.
Spring Debut: Todd Snyder
Todd Snyder, a NYC-based chain of men’s clothing stores, is ready to succeed Billy Reid, which opened in 2013, at 3211 M St. NW. Previously, the space was occupied by Pizzeria Uno from 1981 through 2012. Owned by American Eagle Outfitters, Todd Snyder plans to open in the spring.
Closed (Again) Temporarily: Apple Store
Georgetown’s Apple store at 1229 Wisconsin Ave. NW is once again closed temporarily for renovations. It was closed for a few weeks before Christmas for work in the basement and the back shop. The additional construction is expected to take more than a month.
