A busy weekend is upon us! Rest up now to get ready to head to the 20th annual French Market, a weekend spring garden sale at Mount Vernon, Glen Echo Park’s carousel opening for the season and of course the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner with all of the occasion’s great parties in town.
Georgetown French Market Celebrates 20 Years
The Georgetown French Market is celebrating 20 years this weekend. Over 35 neighborhood boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, salons and galleries are displaying discounted items for up to 75 percent off. The open-air market is reminiscent of France’s own versions. Local restaurants will be featuring food and drink specials and of course plenty of crepes, croissants and macarons. Oo la la! “Fall in Love” at Capital One Hall
This evening, enjoy “The Music of Nat King Cole” at Capital One Hall. Delight in Cole’s timeless favorites like “Stardust,” “Mona Lisa,” “L-O-V-E” and more with conductor Luke Frazier, vocalists Aisha Jackson and Christopher Jackson and Ray Wong and Steven Mann on piano. Cole broke color barriers in music and had a long career distinguished by patience, grace and talent. Don’t forget to loft a martini before this show full of classic old standards. Weekend Garden Sale at Mount Vernon
This weekend, visit Mount Vernon for their annual Spring Plant and Garden Sale. Heirloom vegetables, herbs and annual flowers will be available, in addition to native perennials, trees and shrubs. The plants and flowers are grown in Mount Vernon’s greenhouses. Members can shop one day early on Friday from 12 noon-6 p.m. (a time-slot must be reserved online). See Monteverdi’s Vespers at The National Cathedral
End your weekend with Sunday afternoon’s “Vespers” at The National Cathedral. Connecting the Renaissance and the Baroque periods is Monteverdi’s seldom-performed “1610 Vespro della Beata Vergine. The cathedral is the perfect backdrop for the soaring sounds. More information can be found here.
Unleash Your Inner Child at Glen Echo Carousel Day
Glen Echo Park’s 102-year-old Dentzel Carousel opens for the season on Saturday. Carousel rides will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to rides, there will be an opening parade, maypole with The Washington Revels, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and live music. New Studio Gallery Exhibit at Studio Gallery DC
April 26 through May 20 marks a new exhibit called “Anchors of the Heart.” Artist Micheline Klagsburn’s My ‘Night Boat’ is curated by Aneta Georgievska-Shine and is inspired by family experiences and heightened by the ongoing troubles of refugees. Studio Gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment. Before you visit, it is recommended to check out the gallery’s website here.
National Landing’s Pink in the Park
National Landing is holding its (reschedule from an earlier date) Pink in the Park this Sunday. The event will be at the Long Bridge Park Aquatics and Fitness Center and will feature food trucks, cherry-blossom inspired art, a cashless beverage garden and more. The event is often dubbed the finale of the cherry blossom season. More information on all the happenings from 4 to 8 p.m. can be found here.

National Museum of Women in the Arts and Planet Word Host Women Muralists and Graffiti Artists
Don’t miss a conversation at Planet Word this Sunday with women muralists, mixed-media artists, graffiti artists, filmmakers and more. The discussion will explore the possibilities of social change through public art and local arts lovers will be pleased to see artists like Nekisha Durrett (who has a permanent installation in the renovated Martin Luther King, Jr. Library) and MISS CHELOVE, who has multiple murals around the city. Pound the Pavement with The Yards’ Fifth Annual “Brunch on the Go” Fun Run Series
Beginning Saturday, The Yards is kicking off its fifth annual “Brunch on the Go” series. After a fun run/walk, guests get a curated brunch for two from a Yards restaurant. This weekend includes a brunch for two from Osteria Morini, a bottle of sparkling rosé, two champagne flutes and a fanny pack. Tickets can be found here.
