We’re back for another fun-filled fall weekend! As the weather turns cooler, get ready for events like the Citizens Association of Georgetown’s annual fall cocktail party, Mrs. Doubtfire at The National Theatre, the opening of the 2023-2024 National Philharmonic season, a new play about Picasso, and so much more.
Mrs. Doubtfire Gets the Musical Treatment
The beloved 1993 film starring the late great Robin Williams has been turned into a musical. It runs through October 15 as part of The National Theatre’s “Broadway at the National” series. Meet the 14th Librarian of Congress at Mount Vernon
Dr. Carla Hayden will be appearing at Mount Vernon for the annual George Washington Leadership Lecture, which explores the nation’s first president’s accomplishments and helps give a better understanding of him as a person and his lasting legacy. The lecture is celebrating 10 years this year and will feature complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres post-talk. More information on tickets can be found here.

Don’t Miss the Palisades Village House Tour
This Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., head to the ninth annual Palisades Village House Tour. The event will showcase seven homes in the Palisades/Kent area. The homes are showcased in various architectural styles, use of space and unique art and décor. Many homes have undergone big renovations, including new open living space, kitchens, and family rooms. “Gershwin, Price and Beethoven” Kicks off 2023-2024 National Philharmonic Season
The National Theatre’s 2023-2024 season begins with a show featuring highlights from Gershwin, Price and Beethoven. Don’t miss pianist Michelle Cann as she opens the concert with the iconic “Rhapsody in Blue.” Florence Price’s “Piano Concerto in One Movement” and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 round out the impressive show at The Music Center at Strathmore. Fans of local folk band Magpie are celebrating their 50th anniversary at Wolf Trap on Saturday. They will be showcasing their beautiful harmonies and moving instrumental arrangements. See “Picasso” at GALA Hispanic Theatre
Don’t miss the bilingual play “Picasso” by playwright Cornelia Cody, which is appearing at GALA Hispanic Theatre Saturday through October 21. The hour-long play is a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death. Expect to see lots of color to invoke Picasso’s artistic style, as well as themes of family. The Big Build Comes (Appropriately) to the National Building Museum
A free, hands-on, STEM-focused community day is coming to The National Building Museum Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect an outdoor petting zoo with construction equipment and indoors, there will be interactive activities with home remodelers, construction workers, roofers, plumbers, artisans, and more. Celebrate National Adopt a Dog Month at the Darcy Hotel
The Darcy Hotel on Rhode Island Ave. NW, along with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, are partnering for an event Friday evening to celebrate National Adopt a Dog Month. There will be adoptable dogs at the “Yappy Hour,” which will feature treats for both humans and canines. More information on the event can be found here.
D.C. History Center’s “On the Square” Community Event Shines Light on Carnegie Library, Mount Vernon Square
This Saturday, the D.C. History Center will be hosting a hands-on experience with historic collections and exhibits, learning activities for the family, walking tours and more at Carnegie Library in Mount Vernon Square NW. The library is where downtown D.C., Shaw, and the Mount Vernon Triangle all come together. The D.C.
