Weekend Roundup: April 3-6


Happy April! There are lots of events and activities to choose from this weekend, including lots of chamber music, a new exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and more cherry blossom fun with Petalpalooza®.

The National Chamber Ensemble’s Season Continues with Bach and Brahms
In celebration of Marymount University’s 75th anniversary, violinist Leonid Sushansky and pianist Thomas Pandolfi bring to life the works of Bach, Brahms and Liebermann. The duo will be performing Saturday evening at Marymount University Ballston Center. More information on tickets can be found here.

Speaking of Chamber Music—Wolf Trap Will Be Performing Some This Weekend Too

Friday evening at The Barns at Wolf Trap, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will be performing as part of “Chamber Music at The Barns.” The program includes one violin, cello, or flute and gives an opportunity for listeners to see personal collaborations between pairs of artists. Expect to hear pieces like Mozart’s “Sonata in E-flat Major” and Grieg’s “Sonata in A Minor.” More information can be found here.

Attend Mountain Stage Hosted by Kathy Mattea
Two-time Grammy winner Kathy Mattea is hosting a taping of “Mountain Stage” live at the Hylton Center’s Merchant Hall. For over 40 years, Mountain Stage has given listeners what they call “the best seat in the house” with recordings in front of a live audience. Each two-hour episode is taped live for a radio broadcast and is recommended for those ages 7+. More information on tickets can be found here.

Opening Saturday at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts: “Frida: Beyond the Myth”

Artist Frida Kahlo continues to enchant art lovers with a new exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit, which opens Saturday and runs through September 28, showcases Kahlo’s most important paintings and drawings from the beginning of her career in 1926 through her death in 1954. There will be over 60 works of art on display in a variety of media. More information can be found here.

Check Out a Native American Arts Market at Woolly Mammoth
Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will be hosting its second annual Native American Arts Market Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be in collaboration with Native beadworker Senajewen and singer Mary Phillips. Expect lots of booths by Native American artisans and craftspeople from the area. More information can be found here.

Taste of Pride Adams Morgan is This Weekend

Celebrate the diversity, community and LGBTQ voices in Adams Morgan this Friday and Saturday at Taste of Pride Adams Morgan. The event is supported by local businesses and government partners as well as community leaders. Expect to see restaurants like El Tamarindo, Roofers Union, Town Tavern and more. Enjoy “Common Ground: Youth in Action” at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts
A free annual event under the theme “Common Ground: Youth in Action” explores the role of youth and artistic creation in civic engagement. “The Night of Ideas 2025” comes to D.C. on Saturday from 3-10 p.m. and features guest speakers and artists as they explore creative approaches to modern topics. The event will be held at Duke Ellington School of the Arts. More information can be found here.

More Cherry Blossom Fun: Petalpalooza® is Saturday
The Capitol Riverfront is hosting the annual Petalpalooza® Saturday from 1-9 p.m. The event spans nearly 500,000 square feet and includes five entertainment areas.
