We’re full into November now with lots to do! The National Chamber Ensemble opens their season, the Phillips Collection opens a new exhibit and much more. Have a great weekend!

Take Your Child to Their First Theater Experience
Enjoy an interactive play, “Flutter,” that introduces babies and toddlers to the four seasons (the weather, not the Vivaldi composition) at The Kennedy Center this weekend. The interactive composition includes sweeping visuals, soft sounds and lots of hands-on textures. Expect to see lots of glittering butterflies, fireflies and more in this 40-minute interactive play. See Grammy-Winning American Roots Artists at Strathmore

Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, Grammy winning American roots musicians, along with Chinese classical hammered dulcimer player Chao Tian (who is a former Strathmore Artist in Residence) will be at the Mansion at Strathmore on Sunday for two performances at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The trio’s repertoire will feature traditional Chinese and Appalachian music. Tonight: D.C. Central Kitchen’s Capital Food Fight

Tonight at The Anthem is the Capital Food Fight. The annual fundraiser for DC Central Kitchen includes a stage show from rising stars on the D.C.’s culinary scene, tastings from top restaurants and appearances from some of the biggest names in food. Over the last 20 years, the Capital Food Fight has raised over $12 million. More information can be found here.

The National Chamber Ensemble Opens Season with ‘Parisian Dreams: Ravel and Saint-Saens’

The National Chamber Ensemble launches its 2025-2026 season with ‘Parisian Dreams: Ravel and Saint-Saens’ this Saturday at Gunston Arts Center – Theater 1 in Arlington. The concert pays tribute to the 150th birthday of Maurice Ravel, featuring some of his best works, like the Habanera. More information can be found here.

Celebrate Beethoven This Sunday at St. Ann

St. Ann Catholic Church continues their concert series with “Celebrating Beethoven.” The performance includes Grammy nominated violinist Andres Cardenes and pianist Martin Labazevitch. The concert is free, but donations are accepted. More information can be found here.

Sixth & I Presents ‘Twincussion’

Twin-brother percussion duo Twincussion is at Sixth & I Saturday evening for a concert. The duo bridges Taiwanese folk tradition with classical and innovative modern works. Something to look forward to: Handel’s Passacaglia, arranged by Halvorsen and reimagined for percussion. More information can be found here.

‘Out of Many: Reframing an American Art Collection’ at The Phillips Collection Begins

Starting Saturday is “Out of Many: Reframing an American Art Collection,” which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. The exhibit presents artists from the permanent collection and builds a story about how from the early 20th century to the present, artists have imagined and depicted the people, cultures, landscapes and histories of the country. Expect to see artworks from historic collections of African American art at the Howard University Gallery of Art and The David C. Driskell Center at the University of Maryland. The Limits and Proximities Gallery Opens Friday

A new art gallery opens this weekend at 1054 31st St. NW. The Limits and Proximities Gallery, established by the Limits and Proximities Foundation for the Arts, is a nonprofit whose primary mission is to preserve the legacy of the Bolivian American visual artist Fernando Casas. The inauguration of the gallery will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. More information can be found here.
