•The S&R Foundation has announced that Septime Webre, longtime artistic director of the Washington Ballet, will join the Georgetown-based nonprofit as artistic director this fall. Webre, also a prominent choreographer, will step down in June from the ballet company, where his successor is former American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Julie Kent.
“Septime is an exhilarating addition to the S&R team,” said Dr. Sachiko Kuno, the foundation’s president and CEO. Among other duties, Webre will curate a new performance series, Halcyon Stage, comprising music, dance and interdisciplinary work.
S&R’s mission is “to support talented individuals with great potential and high aspirations in the arts, sciences and social entrepreneurship, especially those who are furthering international cultural collaboration.” Headquartered in the historic Evermay and Halcyon House estates, the foundation purchased the Fillmore School property at 1801 35th St. NW in 2015. Formerly the Corcoran College of Art’s Georgetown campus, the school will be converted to artists’ studios.
