Hundreds Attend Candlelight Vigil at White House for Orlando Shooting Victims (photos)

An emotional candlelight vigil was held outside the White House June 12 to honor the 49 people killed earlier that morning at a gay nightclub, Pulse, in Orlando, Florida. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., sang “We Shall Overcome” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” loud enough, perhaps, to be heard from within the White House, where the flag flew at half-staff. Many held signs condemning gun violence and calling for better gun legislation, while others held signs reading “Love Conquers Hate.”
