The 48th edition of the Citi Open Tennis Tournament is in session, having been moved from its usual early August time frame to July 16-24 (to avoid overlapping with the Olympics). The Rock Creek Park Tennis Center that surrounds William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Stadium is also playing host to family-oriented activities, including player meet-and-greets, autograph sessions and tennis clinics — not to mention an extensive food court.
Hot and humid temperatures did little to dampen the enthusiasm as the tournament kicked off this past weekend with two days of qualifying matches. Match play began Monday with 48 players in the ATP men’s bracket and 32 women in the WTA bracket. (The top 16 men’s seeds received first-round byes and get going later in the week.) 17 Americans will be competing.
This weekend, July 22-24, will see the quarterfinals, semifinals and, on Sunday, the finals. View our action photos from courtside during the tournament’s first three days, including the qualifying matches, by clicking on the photo icons below.
